Better question. Where does it say that stops?

It’s not new it is Toraw
    Exodus 21:1,10
[1]Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them.
[10]If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish.

    Polygamy IS A Command
    Deuteronomy 11:1
[1]Therefore thou shalt love the LORD thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments, alway.
    Deuteronomy 25:5
[5]If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband’s brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto her.

    EXAMPLE
    Genesis 38:8-10
[8]And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.
[9]And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.
[10]And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.

    Proverbs 28:9
[9]He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

    This man is a Deciver!!

This is even more convincing that multiple wives was never condemned by God. There’s not one example of God condemning multiple wives in the Bible. Not one.

In the Bible if you read it it states it is better to have one wife …..if you lie with a Virginia she is your wife ..so if you lie with 2 you now have 2 wife’s you can not treat one better then the other..if you lie with a non Virgin you are comiting adultery with someone’s wife and she with you

Because God is God in case you have forgotten. God can do whatever He likes. He is not answerable to you or any other human for His choices. Stick to Noah; you make more sense! (or less sense, but it does not really matter as much.)

God supports polygamy..period. he had laws put in place for the family. Due the resesrch

  9. Luke Hamel on October 19, 2022 at 2:35 am

Well put. I like that even though morality and faith should go hand in hand, he mentioned how the two are not the same thing.

Polygamy wasnt even a word back then the LORD never changed malachi 3:6 a man could have one wife if he wants many people had wives it just wasnt mentioned, even today one wife is hell in babylon , everything is out of order

Then God Revealed the Quran and set new rules if you want to marry more than 1 wife.
    Read Quran 4-3
[if you fear that you will not be able to do justice between your wives by marrying more than one, then marry only one wife, or satisfy yourself with only female captives.]
    ….
Then he said this on this verse
(4:129) You will not be able to treat your wives with absolute justice not even when you keenly desire to do so. (It suffices in order to follow the Law of Allah that) you incline not wholly to one, leaving the other in suspense.[161] If you act rightly and remain God-fearing, surely Allah is All-Forgiving, All-Compassionate.

We can conclude that God clearly saying marry only one and that’s best for you.
If you want to read full chapter is
    ( Quran – Nisa )

The relationship between a man and his polygamous wives is that to each of his wives,
He is a husband to her (his wife).

In the new testament, the standard to be an elder in church is that you should be a husband of one wife. This means that it was normal for church members to have multiple wives.
No where in the new testament was polygamy criticized amongst the many sins.

The sin of sleeping with your mother, men sleeping with men, greediness etc was criticised but no where was polygamy criticized or even named amongst sins.

Polygamy is not a sin. Is it a satisfactory relationship and a stable one? Probably not.

  13. The Truth Hurts on October 19, 2022 at 2:41 am

I think most people miss the purpose of polygamy in Israel. If someone’s brother died childless, the brother was to take the brother’s wife and raise up children in his name so his brother would have his inheritance in the land. We are not looking for the land in this world, we seek a better promise. Hence, there is no need for it. Be satisfied when God gives you one wife.

  14. President Christopher on October 19, 2022 at 2:43 am

Why then did GOD, (through the prophet Nathan) GIVE THE FORMER KING SAUL’S wives into his bosom, in violation of God’s own command in Deuteronomy 17:17?

Why did God allow polygamy in the Bible? For me, to show the marriage feast at the end of the world as God’s elect become the brides of Christ. But God clearly states it’s better to be with 1 woman.

  17. Andy Shelton on October 19, 2022 at 2:46 am

Plural marriage was mandated by the law of Moses (Deuteronomy 25:5-6)

  18. Austin Skidmore on October 19, 2022 at 2:46 am

No, the two become one flesh in the form of a baby

  19. DEFWIND on October 19, 2022 at 2:46 am

Even under Yahshua’s command. Yes 1 man and 1 woman. As in Adam and Eve. The thing is woman (Eve) took of the fruit under the instruction of the serpent and he said "you won’t die but be as the same as Yah (GOD)" so the woman seeks to be as GOD from the beginning. Eve knew she was under Adam. She gave the fruit to him to after she was "woke" leading her own head (Adam) to death with her but hoping to be like GOD as the serpent said .Marrying multiple wives is not a sin according to the Messiah himself. You can’t divorce and take another or it’s adultery. You must support them both. Multiple women wives who seek to be as God is not an easy task. They plot to take your place as the image of God though they are the image of you. There are too many stories of how women try to do this but in the day of the queen of Babylon, their plite is so easy to break men and have other men support them with our very kingdom promoting such actions. The previous man pays while they use sexual seduction to gain another. When has it ever been OK for another man to support and raise another man’s child? Sex is powerful but never so much as now and they get paid by their original husband to do so.

  20. Elijah F on October 19, 2022 at 2:46 am

Gods are like the men who create them. Polygamy, slavery, these were ways of life, back then.

  21. WastedstupiD on October 19, 2022 at 2:46 am

Lol. Any man who can constitute a house full of woman on equality and respect is the sum of God.

  22. Thomas Corriher on October 19, 2022 at 2:47 am

This preacher is committing the worst kind of sin. He’s altering the Bible and putting words into God’s mouth to make them say what he wants them to say. Not once in the Bible is there an instance condemning polygamy, even though most of the kings and prophets of the Old Testament participated in it. Those were the people who God chose as examples. In fact, there’s even an instance in the Bible where polygamy is required. Reference Deuteronomy 25:5. The Bible also says that preachers will be held to a higher standard, so this guy will have some explaining to do. We can debate the merits of polygamy from a rational standpoint, but there’s no excuse for lying about what God said.

  23. Grant Edwards on October 19, 2022 at 2:49 am

God didn’t allow polygamy He ordained polygyny unless the man desires the office of Bishop or Deacan. God gave David all of Saul’s wives as a gift, so God condones polygyny.
Marriage is a picture of the relationship God has with the church. One God (bride groom) many members of the church (the bride)
The lesson you gave of the rich man taking another man’s only sheep was wrong. God was angry at David for taking another man’s wife. That is adultery. Your understanding of this subject is trainted by your church tradition and not governed by the words of God.
David was the apple of God’s eye, contrary to you he always obeyed God all of his life while he was a polygynist.
"Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite."
    1 Kings 15:5
He had many wives and God blessed him.
Shame on you for twisting the scriptures to suit your false teaching.

  24. Bura Lee on October 19, 2022 at 2:50 am

David was not condemed for many wives but for taking another.

  25. Rick Allen on October 19, 2022 at 2:55 am

I like how Polygamy is being discussed but when it comes to Adam and Eve, incest is totally overlooked. One of the reasons I do not believe in the Adam and Eve story is because I know belief requires me to be ok with incest. If they were really the first 2 people, thats what had to happen with their kids.

Out of curiosity, if only Kings and the like had more than one wife, what about Elkanah, Peninah, and Hannah? As far as I know they were not a special family or a family of status.

  29. John Rose on October 19, 2022 at 2:59 am

I do not believe Dr. Gentry adequately answered the question. The issue is not why polygamy occurred — as we see that idolatry, rape, murder, and the like also occurred, and no one asks why they were permitted — because their commission was either at the hands of clearly wicked men, or, when God’s own perpetrated, those acts were severely punished — often by death! The problem comes with the fact that the modern, Western church teaches that polygamy was a sin like these former — why then no record of polygamists being put to death, or given some other punishment? The Law goes into much detail on the sexual lives of the Jews: adultery would be met with death; homosexuality was similarly dealt; incestuous unions were forbidden — and these are only a few. Absent is an entry for polygamy, and a corresponding punishment: the question is why, if polygamy is also a sin?

  30. Ivan Scott on October 19, 2022 at 2:59 am

God "allowed" polygyny (not polygamy which includes polyandry as well as polygyny) the same as He "allowed" divorce/remarriage and "allowed" celibacy. His standard is indeed 1 Man and 1 Woman, however if you believe that Saul/Paul was gifted with celibacy then you can not through out the proverbial baby with the bath water and deny a gifting of polygyny. Also, the ONLY 2 reasons allowed for divorce are both sexual. So Women Christians could not divorce their husbands for being physically abusive. Also, a Man could not divorce his wife for being an emotionally and verbally abusive person to the point of contributing to such depression in the Man that suicidal thoughts arose in him.

  31. Jon Hantsbarger on October 19, 2022 at 3:02 am

My difficulty is David having over 10 wives and not condemned by God for polygamy. Instead God calls him a man after my own heart. I believe God teaches one man and one woman and the 2 shall be 1. So why is David called a man after my own heart????

  32. Peter Pan on October 19, 2022 at 3:03 am

I have trouble thinking of any polygamous relationship in the Bible that didn’t cause problems. Definitely seemed like it was permitted rather than prescribed
