Why are 'religious freedom' laws being enacted?
Why are 'religious freedom' laws being enacted?
Spirited Debate: Wendy Patrick on why ‘religious freedom’ laws are being passed and whether businesses will continue to discriminate with or without them
Seriously, who cares. I do not care about your skin color, sexual preference, political affiliation, religious affiliation, poor, rich, or gender identity etc. I refuse to discriminate because of your belief. If you do not like a certain preference, that is your opinion. But do not enforce your religious belief or any belief on anyone else. Get over it and live your life.
******America is a predominately Christian nation and the rights of the majority that fear and respect a higher power mustn’t be forced to violate their conscience serving lifestyles of Sodomy!
Can’t wait for when they try to impose legitimate same sex marriage in a Mosque.
This will never happen, because it seems to have become the norm to bash and demonize Christians in this day and age. (That also includes the current lack of emphasis of atrocities committed against Christians in the Middle East)
I guess gays are a close second to Muslims and feminists in the victim pyramid of 2016 USA!
Why are Muslims allowed to sacrifice their sisters to the devil for Islam over honor issues? What about saving lives by stopping earthquakes with virgins and volcanoes? From an economic perspective it could work like a religion as well as encourage tourism. In a morally relative world where all cultures are equal, why not?
Christians dont even understand there bible and commandments. the law of the land if violated lands you in hell…. Sooooooooooooooo ya understand your fiction please. also phone girl doesn’t understand what discrimination is.
why are American politicians forcing people to do things they don’t want to? Go some where else where someone actually cares about your same sex marriage. It’s not like there isn’t anyone out there willing to wed gay couples. This is like college students giving up hope of finding a job after the first job listing and not getting the job.
There has never been a case where a same sex couple sued a Minister, Priest or any type of Clergy in America because they refused to perform a same sex wedding. That has never happened. No Lawyer would ever take that case because the First Amendment is clear and Churches are protected.
In Georgia HB-757 was specifically written to protect churches and the clergy, and would not apply to bakeries, shops, restaurants, or florist because that portion of the original Bill conflicted with State Civil Rights laws in Georgia.
IS it LGBT freedom or anti religion you protect one and prosecute the other or vise versa this is when it goes to majority rule
Halleluiah
This is America. We can’t give Christians the right to discriminate because that is giving Christians special privileges over the rest of the population and discriminating against homosexuals. Why is this so hard to understand?
C’mon folks, it’s just innocently "separate but equal"…because we’ve never had any issues with such an ideaology before.
Did you know that USA Muslim women would be physically abused, beaten or even murdered if she attempted to assimilate into American culture? As prisoners, she is not free to go into public unless she wears the traditional clothing. We Americans need to liberate them by passing local laws and ordinances saying she is prohibited from wearing those clothing in our communities, and allow her the freedom to not just be in America but to join in with Americans.
Please! Its’ still very objectionable. If you’re a Catholic priest you don’t have to perform a marriage between gays. If you own a store you shouldn’t have the ability to discriminate about who you sell to based on race, ethnicity, religion or sexuality–PERIOD.
The odds stacked against any of this even happening are incomprehensible.
The Christian Right views "religious freedom" as their right to strip away your rights.
Sodom and Gomorrah, ..thats all that needs to be said :If you keep playing Dumb to the Word of God..Salt is the conclusion If salt has lost it taste what good is it. ..Warning there Is No Excuse. ..No Excuse. .No Excuses. .No hiding place..Caution. .the World has it’s Law..But God had his first. ….✌Peace – Out. ..
WOW
The thing is it is not "Religious vs LGBT" it is "Bigots vs LGBT" and when it isn’t something more reasonable can be negotiated that is specific and reasonable such as perhaps a transgender person that has been on hormones and other physical processes for to be conservative 3 months; as opposed to very specific genital surgery and administrative changes to ID documents (which is both unreasonable and unenforceable and will not be followed and cheated when necessary; not to mention a lot of the time no-one absolutely no-one will even notice because visually there is no reason for anyone to suspect anything).
Anyway for the people who are not bigots hellbent on discrimination you (collectively actually need to be a bit more willing to compromise) and maybe most demanding LGBT people also need to be willing to comprise more as well.
But the bigots will not win, the people whom insist that transgender and intersex people use the toilet of birth assigned sex no matter what or with the one and only exception of very surgery and all sorts of administration; these people will not win; I am telling you. Watch this space they will not win unless they be a bit more reasonable.
Regarding the toilets the law is not much more enforceable than "sodomy laws" which were just ridiculous. I am telling you it is true.
What about the people in the 1960s who were claiming that interracial marriage violated their religious freedom (yes people were making this claim back then, and they had Bible verses to back it up)? Then those people from the 1960s who made these claims, were treated unfairly for having to accept these new types of marriages. And then there are people who divorce and remarry, which the Bible states is clearly a sin, should those same people be allowed to deny those people services too? How far does this go? You could almost make a claim about anything violating your religious freedom.
As a business owner, I have the right to hire the most qualified person for the job. As a business owner, I have the right to sell my product, or allow entry into my place of business, anyone I chose. If you don’t like it, you have the right to buy from my competition. Simple as that.
