What Does the Resurrection Actually Mean? — Bishop Barron’s Sunday Sermon

Friends, Christ is risen from the dead, and heaven and earth have collided! Despite this grand, reorienting truth, our culture seems to miss the point of the Resurrection. The world tries to domesticate Easter, but this is impossible. There’s no other reaction than to accept the life-changing reality that Jesus of Nazareth rose bodily from the dead.

Bishop, you are bringing hope back to those who’ve lost it. I learned about you from Jordan Peterson’s podcast. You are thought provoking and believable. I was raised catholic in a family that didn’t live it. Yet I’ve always believed and feared Christ. I’ve welcomed Him back into our home.

Heaven and earth are always intertwined, by the heavens the earth was made by God, heaven is just behind a thin curtain obscured by our sinful eyes of the material world. Heaven is as far away as it is close inside our hearts if we believe and hold on to Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit. Heaven is not a destination far away, heaven is in God, heaven is unity with God.
The resurrection of Christ is the true earth, the one united with heaven in God, the Supreme Reality of all things.

    Not even a good story.

    what would it be ?
follow him or the treasures of the world when everithing belongs to God?
is like when they ask him shouod we pay taxes to Caesar? who is Caesar? is he not my revel son like Lucifer? like the Jews ask the Lord to be their king so he can get the Romans out if Israel and the Lord said if we fight them we will turn like them like saying i don’t fight my creation I am here for them to repent before is too late so they don’t get lost or end in hell

This man may single handedly revive the Catholic Church from its liberal modern decline

  7. @kiwihans100 on June 16, 2025 at 10:26 pm

The pagan concept and the NT concept are totally opposite! The human bodies that return to dust are NOT somehow ‘reunited’ with their ‘souls’ that have been floating about in ‘the underworld, hades, pergatory & then either float up to heavan outside the visible universe! while others are ‘thrown into hellfire’ where their immortal souls are forever tortured!’ All FALSE, PAGAN.

Can you please talk about what Jesus did between when Jesus died on the cross and when he was resuscitated?

Wonderful, wonderful sermon Bishop Baron. I wish you had been around in my youth. So many wasted years at a Convent with absolutely no inspiration whatsoever. Thank you !!

Bishop, I hope you know that alot of us protestants (Im a Methodist) watch these videos and are much edified by them. Im teaching our Sunday school class this coming week, and the physical bodily resurrection of Jesus is the subject. I indeed drew some insight from this video, and it is exactly the right length. I plan to play it to the class as instructional material. Once again, Thanx so much!

Hello Bobby, Thanks for your partial gospel : What the Resurrection of Jesus Christ means ? Here is the fulfilling meaning of your partial gospel in a nutshell : The Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus Christ is the complete victory over satan and satan’s earthly kingdoms(1 Corinthians 15:55-58 KJV), so that we ought to set our affection on things above, not on things on the earth(Colossians 3:2 KJV). Do you know who is the most cursed wicked evil living persons on the face of the earth after Judas Iscariot : THE POPE AND HIS SATANIC JESUITS ; Because " They set their mouth against the heavens, And their tongue walketh through the earth – Psalm 73:9 KJV " . Go ahead Bobby, Set the partial gospel on the trident tongues of fire.

Big question Mathews and Luke’s Gospels confuse when they talk of the 12 original apostles. Both have few different names. What are the original 12 names and where can I get more info or a good book why Jesus chose them and their lives ?? Also I really love the series “The chosen” hope people get to see it rather than other garbage I tv

You can always tell a religion that is healthy by how many impossible things it claims without being called to question. Catholicism is not myth yet to a large portion of the world population, but it does seem to be well past the growth period and heading into the history books. Other religions will certainly follow because Mankind evolves so very slowly and collectively our gullibility (suspension of disbelief) will be with us for a very long time.

  15. @JohnnyCarthief on June 16, 2025 at 10:44 pm

Heaven AND Earth. It’s possible to experience heaven on earth by atoning for my sin of crucifying Jesus. Profound.

  16. @SusanWeis-lr7mk on June 16, 2025 at 10:44 pm

I see in the Our Father….thy kingdom come, thy will b e done, ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. THAT is what happens at the mass. Heaven and earth are joined, in our church, at the consecration. Then, give us this day our daily bread. There is Jesus whom we receive at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Rejoice! For our Saviour comes every day, at the Catholic Church, in the mass! Please go to confession before receiving Jesus. Dont go if you see youve sinned.

Bishop, I’m still finding comments like Sam Harris’s recent “where is heaven” troublesome to my soul. I’m asking out of sincerity, how would you approach that question? I listened to Pageau’s answer and it feels very different from this video and I’m not sure how to deal with that.

  21. @SibichenKalarickal on June 16, 2025 at 10:50 pm

    Thanks a Million dear Bishop.

  22. @rikkikeen1859 on June 16, 2025 at 10:51 pm

Christianity has so much depth. Though the obstacles to belief for the modern man are sincere and legitimate. It would be handy if Jesus could show up in visible bodily form to the world, surely that would help. Either he’s God and capable of doing so but is choosing not to. Or he’s not God and at most we can say the perennialists are roughly right with – forgoing self the universe grows I – a realisation across many cultures and religions.

  23. @annekelly968 on June 16, 2025 at 10:52 pm

Wow. I understand fully what this gives to me, the truth of the death and resurrection of Jesus which is NOT a vague symbol. I get it.

  24. @Thomas-dw1nb on June 16, 2025 at 10:54 pm

Timely for several reasons. Easter and the recent podcast with Jordan Peterson. I feel like this was a follow-up to the latter.

  25. @kayleneemery8217 on June 16, 2025 at 10:55 pm

So many are not willing/able to "enter deeply" into that which confounds….unless of course it’s something really important like a university assignment or, what to cook for dinner.
For those of us who have been granted the grace to do so, there are no words in this space. Once again Jesus has raised you out of this ‘overwhelmed’ state and called you to call us, ever forward. Thank you.

  32. @mikerose968 on June 16, 2025 at 11:06 pm

Thank You Bishop Barron for raising our minds and hearts to a higher level. Your point about heaven meeting earth is so important. In the gospel Jesus does tell us that Heaven , hell or purgatory begin right here on earth . Which phase or state your in is up to you. I think many or most Christians are stuck in a earthly purgatory because of apathy. Many Christians want to believe and hope but they are not that excited about putting the gospel into action.

  33. @gervasematthias6432 on June 16, 2025 at 11:07 pm

  36. @jasonh.8754 on June 16, 2025 at 11:12 pm

The Resurrection, like supernatural events in all religions, is a test for gullibility. If you believe in the supernatural, you are easily controlled and those in power can extract maximum value from you. That’s why people who don’t ‘believe’ are seen as a threat to those in power and are branded heretics and tortured and killed in a public way. This warns other would-be heretics to keep their opinions to themselves. Thankfully in the West we no longer do that, I still think it happens in Muslim countries though. The rise of Science has challenged this practice, and as less and less gullible people make it through the gene pool, so does religion diminish.

  37. @vic38290 on June 16, 2025 at 11:12 pm

How about the resurrection as experienced by Jesus’ disciples? Maybe this is the most essential thing that’s more important to talk about than his physical resurrection. I don’t know.

  38. @davidtauler2705 on June 16, 2025 at 11:12 pm

These are fantastic observations on the resurrection by Bishop Baron. I particularly love how the bishop pointed out Peter’s call to action. If the resurrection is indeed historical fact, as all the evidence indicates, we cannot be passive but we must respond with repentance so we too can share not just in Christ’s death as we die to sin but His glory as we share in His resurrection. Hallelujah for the hope of the resurrection that nothing or no one can take away!

    Great sermon!

Jesus as the Word Made Fresh is the specific revelation (Good News / declaration) of the Christian … in Christ there is not just iteration of right teachings, drive to justice, etc, but a complete fulfillment of the promise of right teachings, drive to justice, and love (agape).
The resurrection is the divine vindication of Love Made Fresh.
