Orthodox Christian Theology – Dispiritedness is source of all mental problems
Late Orthodox Christian Elder, Abbot Joseph of the Great Vatopedi Monastery at Mount Athos, teaching his monks how to fight Dispiritedness.
It sounds simple, but there is nothing without god.
AMIN!!!
Thank you, what a great message. And wow, the Greek byzantine chanting is beautiful. It gave me goosebumps and shivers.. I believe this is the translation: "Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and to those in the tombs, granting life."
Where can I find the picture at the end?
The truth is that not a single day goes by without blessings.
He’s truly guided by the Holy Spirit, he knows what he’s saying and I can relate. God bless him and everyone
Wow. He just put all my thoughts in order ! I realized a little while ago that we are constantly bombarded with temptation to sin of all sorts..i didnt know how we are supposed to fight all that. Makes total sense. God Bless everyone.
Please tell me who the artist is who did the beautiful painting at the end.
I am in need of medicine such as this! Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner!
This sermon has encouraged me to continue to study the HOLY BIBLE prayerfully and continue with the JESUS PRAYER.
This is how we fight the enemies attacks. We feed the spirits inside of us, nourish them with what they love, & they will take up arm’s on our behalf.
Amen
O Lord magnify the words of this wonderful Spirit-filled preacher; this illness also comes with internet "news" which capitalizes on the horrible things happening in the world without telling the marvels of miracles from the merciful Lord Jesus Christ! Therefore, Orthodox Christians read the lives of ("real" saints not only monks but lay persons which we can derive courage from reading)! Thank you for this post dear Brothers and Sisters!
Lord give me strength Amiin
00:21 Yes, indeed, dispiritedness will lead to depression, and even mental disorders… If Bruce Jenner, for instance, would reclaim his sexuality, he would finally find peace… …Would that our charismatic pastors in the pulpits possessed the wisdom and saintliness of the Orthodox brethren!

This is like the antidote to the mental issues I was facing, this is a gift worth more than any medication. thank you +++
What is the song called at the end?
Father Joseph pray for us, you are near Christ’s throne.
How empowering!
I am Protestant but I love my orthodox brothers and sister Peace and love from our Lord Jesus Christ and God the father ❤️
How can I not be depressed by the insanity that is happening in my nation the United States of America? We were able to defeat atheist Marxist socialism only to have it infest our present society. How can I not grieve?
God bless him! I love his enthusiasm, honesty and truth with which he speaks, encouraging and giving us hope!
He is my favorite monk! FATHER Joseph pray for me and my family daily! near God’s throne.
What is the song at the end?
Oh man, did he get this right! I was feeling bad about how I spoke to someone & it was weighing on me. I said the Jesus prayer, really meaning it, & the bad feeling was lifted immediately and I felt validated where my feelings were valid and my wrongs were swept away. No more beating myself up. Bless you for this!
What does despiritedness mean?
What is the name of the chorus singing at the end of the video
Thank you
Better than any modern preacher
God is with us!
Thank you I needed this I’ve been in a dark place the last couple months but this video gave me hope
Does anybody know the source of the chanting at the end? I’ve never heard anything so angelic
Thank you for sharing this video! Could someone write the name of the chant at the end of the video? God bless!
i don’t understand everything he said but it helped.
I’m Catholic but love listening to the elders for deeper wisdom.
I grew up going to monasteries regularly and of course the jesus prayer is part of me so young and learned as a child to tie prayer ropes. Yes some aspects of this I agree with but mental illness has no cure like diabetes and may need medical treatment.
By the way I understand certain conditions first hand and some situations never got cured by regular fasting, confession, communion, prayer etc.
So it it courage or is it grace?
Wow. I have no words other than immense gratitude for sharing this powerful message with us all.
God have mercy on us! I’m grateful to Christ for the spirit he gives me in moments of despair. I needed these words now more than ever.
