The popular understanding of The Crusades in the West is that they involved barbaric, violent Christians invading the peaceful and enlightened Islamic world. Films like Kingdom of Heaven and Mankind: The Story of Us reinforce this narrative. But the truth is the reality of the Crusades is much, much different. In fact, it’s the polar opposite. I was only taught about the crusades very briefly but they seemed to be seen as quite a neutral thing in history, not particularly negative. Just Christians & Muslims fighting over who gets to own the strip of sand in the Middle East

Jihad doesnt mean "holy war" so, if you start to talk about how the crusades were really not understood and wrongly portraid maybe you could do a little bit of better reaserch on "other side." Also, simplifying the conflict as a "fuck around and find out" situation where the west is more the victim than simply another piece in the game is an extreme simplification of what happened in the crusades. while it is true that the first crusade was called upon christiendom to "fight back" the islamic conquests, it wasnt really about retaking "holy land". The eastern roman empire wanted back their territories and couldnt do it by themselves so they literally forgot the great schism and asked the pope for help, and every single european leader that embarked on the crusaded wanted glory for themselves. It was so corrupt that the literal greed and selfishness of the westeners were the reason why the crusades never succeed.
Ohhhhh how stupid am i? The Christian world defends the Palestine of Jesus so well today. It protects its Christian legacy and brothers and sisters against the people killing them in the Holy Land. The USA and Europe being the most heavily armed and most affluent parts of the world, dominating the world are doing their utmost best To defend their religion now.

Also there is no holy war in Aquianus terms like the humane defensive wars of Islam. Look at what the preconditions to jihad are and the rules of engagement of war. The fact that you called it the "holy land" just further fortifies the asburdity of having the crusades. There is NO "holy land’! This entire planet is made by God, ergo, the entire planet is his holy creation. There is absolutely ZERO reason to fight over the Middle East, or to fund or support military actions there. And making a new country out of an existing one was completely immoral and insane!
