So, Paul’s gospel is about the person of Jesus. But Jesus’ Gospel is about the Kingdom of God. Two very different gospels here. Jesus’ Gospel is almost always not mention at all. I wonder why.

  2. @jonnyw82 on June 28, 2025 at 10:49 pm

Is that really what Jesus says the Gospel is? Pretty sure Jesus simply says the Gospel is Kingdom has arrived.

Question please. 2 Thes 1:8 says that Christ will bring vengeance on two types of people; those who know not God … and those who did not obey the gospel of Christ. How does one obey the gospel of Christ, please?

Piper is an evil false teaching calvinist who believes in something else other than the true Gospel.

    The Gospel:

    1) A Plan – Christ Died for our songs
    2) An Event in history – Christ’s death
    3) An Achievement – paid for sins
    4) An Offer – free
    5) Application of the achievement
    6) Forgiven & justified to bring us to God

*Calvinism is a FALSE GOSPEL.* Jesus died for *ALL of us* (John 1:29), (John 3:16,17), (John 4:42), (2 Corinthians 5:14, 15), (Romans 5:18), (1 Timothy 2:6), (1 Timothy 4:10,11)…etc. Because He is an incredibly loving and merciful God!

A “god” who has billions of souls in His hands, all of them sinners, and who, being able to choose, chooses the *immense majority* to destroy them in hell!!, not to save them… could be sovereign, but *He is NOT a God of love, he is NOT a merciful God.*

My calvinist friend, you are not going to like what follows. But it is *very important* that you know. I very much fear here is the deep and hidden root by which calvinism penetrates so easily into the corrupt human heart. Well, here it goes:
You are not better than anyone. God didn’t see anything special in you. Nothing. You are not worth a cent more than any of the billions of souls that your “god” is going to send to hell without any possibility of choice. The only reason God could choose you without violating His character, without being a respecter of persons, (Romans 2:11) is because He knew in advance that you would respond positively to His call. “For many are called, but few *chosen.* ” (Matthew 22:14)
These are the chosen ones! Those who say: Yes! to the marriage of the Lamb.
To give someone freedom of choice… Yes! That’s love!! "I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; *CHOOSE,* therefore…" (Deuteronomy 34:19).

Also, *the Bible does NOT say that we are totally depraved beings.* Be very careful friends! This statement could well come from the mouth of satan himself, who is completely depraved. *We still carry the image of God!* Let’s not forget it. And because of that, we can *BELIEVE* and respond freely to God’s call for salvation.

*That limited atonement is an abomination.* Heresy of great caliber. There is nothing exclusive or limited about the cross. Nothing!! *He paid for ALL our sins* (Isaiah 53:6), (1 John 2:2), (John 12:47), (1 John 4:14), (Titus 2:11), (Hebrews 2:9). That is why Jesus commands us to preach to every creature in every nation.

Irresistible grace? Not only is it a heretical concept (Acts 7:51), but it is absurd in its essence. Grace is a gift by definition. A gift that cannot be refused… is not a gift, it is an imposition.

*Once saved, always saved, no matter what you do, it is one of the devil’s biggest and best lies.* The Spirit of God is not up to nonsense! The entire New Testament is full of warnings, from Jesus and Paul, against apostasy. Warning someone of a danger that does not exist is stupid. The Spirit of God would never do such a thing. We need to study the Bible, but we urgently need to take off our Calvin glasses so we can see. Prayer and fasting. By the way, cessationism is another heresy. *All* the gifts of the Holy Spirit operate today for the glory of the Lord. God wants you to know it. (Sorry for my english)

  15. @longstoryshort5463 on June 28, 2025 at 10:53 pm

The Gospel is actually quite plain, simple and easy for to all to understand using the BIBLE. “If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” – Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭9‬ .

To further qualify, plainly and simply using the BIBLE and no subjective thoughts …”This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and the one you have sent — Jesus Christ.” John 17:3

    That is the good news!

Jesus sent out his disciples early in his ministry to share the gospel. How could they share the gospel of Christ’s death and resurrection if it did not happen yet?

  20. @alexandrew8554 on June 28, 2025 at 10:57 pm

Oh my… The missing piece is to believe Jesus’ Word/teachings and show you believe by walking your life in them.

Luke 9:26 – For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.

I think the verse above is VERY clear, almost as clear as the one below.

John 12:48-50 – He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak

If we say we believe but do not do we deceive ourselves.

  21. @henrka on June 28, 2025 at 10:57 pm

All this is good and true, but I like to define the gospel as the remedy for sin. Why ? Because what is man’s chief problem, sin. What is the sole solution or remedy for sin ? The gospel. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ is the remedy that man needs, it is all we need to tell a man, because from it every good gift comes.

  28. @ChristsRighteousness4ever on June 28, 2025 at 11:12 pm

No, you don’t stop at forgiveness. That’s the START!
You repent and believe the gospel.
You are born again, become a new creature in Christ, and you shall know them by their fruits.
Those who have received forgiveness and are saved, will show evidence of that salvation.

  29. @TorchOne on June 28, 2025 at 11:16 pm

Did Jesus preach the Gospel message? YES! So what is the Gospel according to the words of Jesus?

  30. @follow_the_way on June 28, 2025 at 11:16 pm

A brief summary of the gospel of Christ is that it consists of things we must believe, commands that we must obey to be saved, and promises of God that we will receive after salvation.

Salvation in Christ starts when one hears about what Jesus did for them on the cross and then believes in Jesus as Lord. Once a person believes in what Jesus has offered by way of salvation, they must realize their sin, repent of their sins, confess Him as Lord, get water baptized for the forgiveness of their sins, and live obediently to His commands.

Here are a few verses that summarize the gospel of Christ.

    • The gospel must be preached for it is the power of God unto salvation (Mark 16 15; Romans 1 16).
    • Saving Faith is the direct result of instruction in God’s word (John 6 44 and 45; Romans 10 17).
    • Saving Faith leads to repentance (Acts 2:36-38).
    • Repentance leads to salvation (2 Corinthians 7:9-10).
    • When one has repented of his sins and confessed his faith in Jesus (Acts 8:37, Romans 10 10), he is then water baptized into Christ (Romans 6:1-6).
    • This makes one a child of God (Galatians 3:26-27).

Salvation is either conditional or unconditional. Salvation is an all-encompassing truth that includes all of these.

There are 2 sides that we need to consider. God’s side(basis), and man’s side(conditions). Understanding this concept makes all the difference in how we understand the bible.

God’s side is the basis for our salvation and man’s side is the meeting of conditions set forth by God. There is the basis for our salvation and there are conditions to be met.
    • The basis of our salvation involves what God has done.
    • The conditions are what we must do to receive the free gift.
    • Neither excludes the necessity of the other.

I heard about the good news (The Gospel) many, many times over and over when I was young; never understood it until I understood the the bad new: the death and wrath that I deserved, and the direction of hell I was heading, because I’m guilty of violating the law of a Holy God, and some day all will be judged for who they are. The direction I was going was evil. Thank God for His grace and mercy through our Lord Jesus Christ.

    Colossians 2:13-14:
And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. (Colossians 2:13-14)

We must add that Repentance is a major part of our being "Born Again", walking in newness of life, and that faith without works is dead. The Great Commission includes "teaching them to OBEY all the commandments I have given you." "Why do you call Me Lord, Lord, and do not what I say?" "Go and sin no more". See also [1 John 2:4, 1 John 5:3, John 14:15, Luke 6:46, 1John 3:4, John 8:11, Matt 5:48, Matt 22:36-38, Mark 12:28-30, Luke 10:25-27, 2 Peter 3:16-17, Rev 12:17, Rev 14:12] and there are many more examples.

  39. @rogermetzger7335 on June 28, 2025 at 11:28 pm

My wife and I were born in the Midwest. We met in Iowa and were married in Iowa. Our children were born in Iowa. After working as a nurse in Iowa for several years, my wife took a position at the University of Utah Medical Center. One of the missionaries serving on Temple square in Salt Lake City told me “All religions are good. It’s just that we have more.” After spending an average of probably about twenty hours per week for 24 years learning as much as I could about the beliefs and practices of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka Mormons), I answered a knock on our door to find a pair of missionaries who wished to share “the gospel” with me.

I told them I had heard the story of Joseph Smith Jr. several times but that I was willing to listen to them tell it if they wished.

They came into our living room and made their presentation, complete with a series of questions that sounded like yes-or-no questions but to which I gave other answers.

After they had been at our house for a little less than an hour, one of the missionaries said he had never heard the kinds of answers I had given and that he had one more question he would like to ask but they needed to leave to meet another appointment. Would I be willing to make an appointment for them to return?

They returned at the appointed time. The “one more question” was about a visit they had had with a Luteran pastor in his office. The missionary said the pastor was quite cordial until he was told the purpose of the missionaries’ visit was to tell him about how the gospel had been restored.

From then on, the pastor was barely civil toward the missionaries and they wanted to know whether I might have some insight into why his demeanor had changed so radically.

I asked the missionaries whether they had any idea what protestants mean by the phrase, “the gospel”.

They looked at each other and realized they didn’t have the faintest clue. (For those not acquainted with how the missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints understand and use that phrase, their definition of “the gospel” is the message that spiritual authority was lost around the end of the first century A.D, that it was “restored” in the nineteenth century and that their church organization is the only source or conduit of spiritual authority.)

I explained that for Lutherans and most other protestants, “the gospel” is understood to mean one or both of two things:

The story of Jesus’ birth, his life, his miracles, his teachings, his agony in the Garden of Gethsemane(1), his arrest, his trials, his crucifixion, his resurrection and his ascension.
The doctrine (teaching) that selfishness(2) has separated us from the creator and that, because Jesus is both divine(3) and human, his perfect sacrifice is the atonement (at-one-ment) supplied.

I asked the missionaries to try to imagine the frustration of the Lutheran pastor when he realized how difficult it would be to carry on a conversation in which the parties involved were using such very different definitions of English words and phrases.

I’m quite comfortable with the definitions of “the gospel” as a majority of protestants use that phrase.

At the same time, my personal definition of “the gospel” includes quite a bit “more”.

If Jesus is who he claimed to be – the great I am (John 8:58), the creator of the universe and our only savior (Isaiah 43:1-11), the gospel includes everything he taught through Moses and other Hebrew prophets. Which is to say that the faith of Jesus is the true continuation of the faith of the Hebrew patriarchs. The gospel includes the good news about how the Lord justifies us, how he sanctifies us and how he will glorify us. I have been saved, I am being saved and I will be saved.

Not everyone who professes faith in Jesus will be glorified – not even everyone who has done wonderful things in his name. (Matthew 7:12-23)

The gospel of the kingdom is the good news that the kingdom of Jesus is an entirely different kind of kingdom. He made it quite clear that he can never be a political king when he said, “My kingdom is not of this world” – and then he suffered and died rather than be the kind of king the majority of the Hebrews wanted and expected.

    Footnotes:

    (1) I was careful to include the agony of Jesus in the garden because members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints place great emphasis on that.

    (2) It is true that sin is the transgression of the Law but selfishness is the sin principle we inherited from Adam and Eve. In this context, I used the word, “selfishness”, because members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints seldom use the word, “sin”.

    (3) I used the words, “creator” and “divine”, in this context because members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints define the word “God” differently than protestants do.

I understand Dr. Piper elucidating the Gospel from God’s side, His plan. But from man’s side, as stated by Jesus in Matthew 24:14, knowing what it is: The Kingdom of God, and a crucial aspect: repentence is vital. Understanding that #6, is ultimately fulfilled in The Kingdom of God.

    Jesus is King.

    That’s the gospel.

  42. @thomasedwards5431 on June 28, 2025 at 11:38 pm

I love all of this and it is very true. I think it might be better if we would emphasize more the words that God put in His Holy Word, the bible. The gospel is good news. The good news is that i’ve been redeemed. Jesus purchased me with His blood for God (Rev. 5). I’ve been freed from the shackles of sin. From slavery to sin. And i’ve been given the Righteousness of Christ. A righteousness that is not my own. I’ve crossed over from death to life!
These are some of the descriptors of the gospel in the bible. And indeed there is no better news then that God has given me eternal life.

  44. @dannorris8478 on June 28, 2025 at 11:44 pm

It’s amazing how Paul can define the gospel in Romans 1:16,17 and then expound that definition throughout the whole book of Romans and Pastors just ignore it and make up their own nonsense , like this. Read Romans for yourself if you want to know, understand and believe the gospel that Paul taught. You will find little in it that remotely resembles this gibberish.
