NEW CHURCH IN SAUDI ARABIA | HISTORICAL MOVE | VISION 2030| A NEW REPORT

In April 2023, Andrea Zaki, head of the Egyptian Evangelical Community, announced that Saudi Arabia planned to construct its first evangelical church, highlighting the kingdom’s ongoing openness and development.

Additionally, in 2018, Saudi Arabia signed an agreement with the Vatican to build churches for Christian citizens, signaling a potential shift towards accommodating non-Muslim places of worship.

While these developments suggest a move towards greater religious tolerance, no official churches have been established in Saudi Arabia to date. The Christian community, comprising primarily expatriates, continues to practice their faith privately.

In contrast, neighboring Bahrain has demonstrated a more open stance by inaugurating the Cathedral of Our Lady of Arabia in December 2021, which serves as a significant place of worship for Catholics in the region.

These regional changes may influence future policies in Saudi Arabia regarding the establishment of official Christian places of worship.

A new church in Saudi Arabia would be a significant development, considering the country’s historical restrictions on non-Islamic places of worship. While Saudi Arabia has allowed greater religious tolerance in recent years, public worship for non-Muslims is still limited. Would this new church with Vision 2030 mark a shift?

It’s timely. Jesus the first and last conqueror in Book of Revelations is conquering the world by humility, faith and righteousness.

Praise the Lord for this openness to Christianity. Good that a Muslim country reciprocates this way, given that western Christian lands have been inclusive allowing Islam and other faiths.
