I just can’t take Hugh Grant seriously, he’s a mid actor at best and only David Tennant could have played a less intimidating protagonist, if this had a Cillian Murphy level actor it would have been creepy but it’s unintentionally hilarious, unless that’s what they were going for, two actresses do fine work NGL but another movie let down by Grant.
dull movie
you know the movie/show is going to be good when sophie thatcher is in it
Even in this role, Hugh is still deceptively charming.
Did this make you more or less religious?
This movie sucked fucking ass
Horrible ending don’t waste your energy getting invested. sad truth is they lost the whole plot and tension as soon as they got into the basement. Its really badly written for what it was setting this story up to be. and at every turn we expected a moment that would make sense it was completely the shittiest version of that moment and confused the plot and tension of the story.
The stupidest and with no sense movie I’ve ever watched! I’m wandering whose brain can be that damaged to create something like this.
One of the worst movies i’ve seen
I remember watching a not so big movie about 25 years ago cant remember the name but gene hackman was in it with him about drs who kidnap people to do dodgy experiments on them. I remember thinking it was a great hugh grant film.
Masterpiece
Watched this last night. Very good movie. The way Hugh Grant explains religious beliefs and compares the bible to frigging molopoly was fantastic writing.
Me and my brain rn “oh well those girls are fücked”
He said the one true religion is CONTROL, why do we need to know the ending on whether she died or not, why do we need to debate with each other or sell our own beliefs to others on what happened EXACTLY like we do with all different religions. Can’t we just leave the film happily with how it ended and not knowing, It’s interesting how we need to feel some sort of CONTROL of how things ended!!
A brilliant storyline that gives some light on the true meaning of Religion. Is religion a priority or simply an alienation?
good boz
this movie was ass! 3/10
this is one of the best movies ive seen in awhile
Isn’t such a bumbling posh boy now is he
Effortlessly played a liberal
To this wondering if it’s worth watching. It’s not trust me. An absolute waste of time.
Love A24. Seldom disappointed in what they produce so I’m gonna say this is a definite rare occasion to justify going to the theater
Genius
The title of that movie should be "zeitgeist"
Hugh Grant was 99% Hugh Grant from every other Hugh Grant movie ever made, and 1% Hannibal Lecter. And the result was spectacular. He made this movie. I would LOVE to see a prequel explaining other shenanigans he got into before moving to Utah and building this maze dungeon.
The pie is a lie
0:55 she thinks she’s Anya Taylor-Joy
This movie just confirms what I have known for years, it’s all about control. Never really liked the actor, but I knew he could have potential to do performances like this, indeed it was so fun watching Grant act adding his personal sense of humor to the character; I foresee an oscar for his role in this movie.
Its just a film like all other films and does not change my religous beliefs (agnostic) what so ever in the same way I don’t believe star wars, pixies and fairies are true, although I’d like to think unicorns are real, spoiler, there not.
This film was a masterpiece until those girls chose to ‘leave’.
This movie is like "You proved your point. Can you let us go already?"
I don’t feel strongly about this one one way or another.
HANDS DOWN THE BEST!!!
Ending after Sister Paxton stabs him in the neck. What happened to the big metal door he shut on her after she went down that ladder? Shows her goin up them and then pans to scenic view of house (model). Why didn’t she slam it shut? More confusing she goes back to it and it’s wide open, confirming she never shut it. He already came up them by then. House was a maze but why go back to that place after in that room with all kinds of weapons. Good movie but that ending stunk.
Another piece of cinema that has heavy focus on tarnishing the name of Jesus, while Judaism is relayed as the definitive word and then defended in comparison with Christianity and Islam. A reoccurring theme in the Jewish owned film industry which I’m sure has nothing to do with presenting information to question Christianity and nothing else
Once again we have a trailer which basically spoils the whole movie. Anyway… the first half was very good, established us with the two semi-likable protagonists and the suspiciously creepy villain, then systematically puts everything into a dangerously confined inescapable setting. After that it pretty much went downhill (literally downstairs in fact). The underwhelmingly semi-predictable ending, which we’ve all seen before, just had me repeatedly checking how much more time was left. First half = 9, second half = 5 (at best).
Bad writing one more time. The movie starts okay, the conversations at the beginning seem that they are going to have and interesting European touch of intimate cinema and then… the bad writing and the “I want to be transgressor and original” kicks in. The movie starts okay and without pretension, and then it yells “look at how original I am, please tell me I am a good movie”.
The points were made at the beginning. Since there wasn’t so much after that, they took the unnecessary paranormal path. Crown their efforts also by saying that Judaism is the most antique and original religion of all and that Christianity/ Catholicism, are just copies (well, a compassionate being like Jesus does not seem to be coping a highly vindictive and spoiled brat that Yahve is, but I don’t have money to make a movie to make that point). I believe they also mentioned Judaism is the oldest religion (it’s Hinduism according to google).
It starts alright, and then it turns into a bunch of crap. The movie should have kept the tone of an intimate defying dialogue. Instead, it turned into low key Jewish propaganda and a bunch of nonsense.
This movie exposed the lunacy of religion. I absolutely love it!!!!
Just saw this film. Amazing work BUT so glad i didnt watch this trailer first. Would have spoilt the tension
Ya Grant was great. But the picking of rooms and closing doors on them after entered got lame after he did 3 different times only to come and see them several moments later. Why even close that trap into basement that last time. He was back down there minutes later. Coming a different way or not, the “now you’re trapped” scene kinda loses its effect when he keeps popping up minutes later. lol. Good movie but wish better ending. She figuring out the 1 true religion is control, think would liked better if he let her go or some fashion.
I liked it but I don’t like how clever the character of Sister Barnes was and how dopy they made the other sister.
