Discipleship 101: WHAT IS DISCIPLESHIP? (Part one)

Discipleship 101: WHAT IS DISCIPLESHIP? (Part one)

Every believer of Jesus is called to be a disciple and make disciples, and when a body of believers do so, it enhances the health of the local Church. So in this video, we explain what exactly discipleship and disciple-making is and isn’t.

Discipleship enhances the health of the Church because everyone is taking part of the load. This type of ownership within a group of believers allows more people to focus on what truly matters: knowing and obeying Jesus. The lack of discipleship in the American Church can lead to its leaders and staff being overworked, burnt out, and develop depression. It not hurts the leadership and cripples the vast majority of the Church, the ordinary believers. If the church’s goal is to attract more people into a building, then we don’t understand Jesus’ marching orders. His orders were to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

We hope this series helps you have clarity on what discipleship is about, and if you know anyone that could benefit from this video, please share it with them!

My biggest challenge right now would be unlearning the lies or unlearning human wisdom that is so ingrained in my system having grown up in the Church. And seeing what scripture actually says it means to be a disciple. Thank God for His Spirit walking with me step by step. Great video!

Thank you! Really great video. I like what you said about the simplicity of the gospel. I tend to over complicate things. The greatest commands are to love God with all of our heart and our neighbor.

Love the video! Discipleship is and should always be the ground level of our faith, Its so important to establish practical pure and simple practices.

Well said. I really care about discipleship & evangelism. Sadly, it was not taught in depth or "how to" at the church I got saved in. You asked about my struggles as a disciple. I would say my struggles I notice are discipline and sacrifice. For example, discipline to spend focused set apart time with God everyday & the sacrifices of spending time with/going to/being uncomfortable with/ being consistent with someone I’m engaged with in a discipleship relationship. By the grace of God He has sent me mature & true believers to fill in the gaps of things I was not taught in depth but I’m still learning.

This is excellent. Just wish there was one more example pulled directly from Scripture that helped to demonstrate the "learning to live in devotion to Jesus".

I was in the process of developing discipleship videos for my ministry website. Compiling research and assembling past sermons and lessens from myself and other ministers. Decided to check YouTube to see what was posted by viable ministries. BEHOLD. I found Into The Harvest Discipleship Videos. I considered "By The Leadership of the Holy Spirit". Seven videos that are Bible based and Believer experienced. Loved the ministry and these videos. Prayers answered. Servant Henry Combs Jr

The most challenging thing that I find is that I lack obedience when it comes to the issues of lust. I sometimes know what to do but I find myself doing that which I never wanted to do.

Thank you Pastor for sharing this in you tube I watched

Discipleship is difficult since it does not try to escape the harsh broken reality of our fallen world today, but at the same time, it is beautiful because it allows us to face it and triumph in grace because of the example of Christ that we are following and living out by the power of the Holy Spirit.

It is hard but it is all worth it for eternity.

May God our Father be glorified in our journey of sanctification.

Thank you for this and God bless Christians everywhere!

Just saw this video as I hunger for More discipleship. Your definition of discipleship is the definition of what it is to be a Christian. And I would say discipleship as a Christian is doing that but walking with others as we do what you are saying discipleship involves others

  24. @lloydtavenor716 on May 12, 2025 at 9:40 pm

My biggest challenge is to connect with non believers with Christ, and not just conversation.

  25. @leadersofleaders on May 12, 2025 at 9:44 pm

Discipleship IS being a Christian. ❤

a very good beginning for me

I have sensed for some time now that the American church is often missing the priority Jesus left us with of being and making disciples. So much time and energy is being placed elsewhere and many people in the church are fooled into thinking this is what God wants them to do. Your video is a breath of fresh air to me. I am planning on sharing this with my small group. We need to wake up to God’s priorities for us. Business that is not directed by God will be burned up like straw on judgement day. Thank you so much for what you are doing and keep it up!!

    I love to Listen

WRONG. Humble yourself and read the word again, use your logic and you’ll see it.

  30. @StarOfJacobOfficial on May 12, 2025 at 9:53 pm

Thanks for that! It’s good to see a simple and clear teaching on Discipleship. My wife and I are focused on exactly the same thing – discipling believers so we can all be more like our Lord and Saviour. God bless!
