The International Religious Freedom Summit Brings Leaders & Scholars Together | EWTN News Nightly
Attacks on religious liberties continue to increase in the United States and around the world. A coalition of groups aimed at protecting religious freedom is working to increase public awareness. They also want to grow political strength for the international religious freedom movement. It’s called the International Religious Freedom Summit, and it brings together leaders from over 30 faiths, advocates, scholars and government officials from around the world to DC, to bring attention to threats of religious freedoms. Former Ambassador for International Religious Freedom, Sam Brownback, says it’s a mission that continues to grow. He says Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has created a spotlight on religious liberty. He says people ignored Putin’s dedication to the Russian Orthodox Church. One of the speakers, Maryum Ali, the daughter of Muhammad Ali, says her father was an incredible boxer, but he used his fame to bring freedom to others, from religious freedom to equality. Congressman Jim McGovern co-chairs the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission and says human rights need to be front and center, from the war in Ukraine to the 2021 return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan, each illustrates the importance of religious freedom. Capitol Hill Correspondent, Erik Rosales reports.
