Eternal Life: You Can Be Sure – Dr. Charles Stanley

Eternal Life: You Can Be Sure – Dr. Charles Stanley

Are you sure you have eternal life? Many people are bothered by that question, and respond in uncertain, doubtful, even defensive ways. But if you truly understand what Jesus did for you at Calvary, you can know without a doubt that you have eternal life.

Unrepentant Sin will separate you from God (Isa.59:2) No man can pluck you out of Father’s hand but He will never take away your choice to walk away. The Bible says that if a righteous person turns from his righteousness and sins his righteousness will not be remembered! That is Gods Word! (Ez.33:12-13)

Let’s see what Jesus has to say:
    ■ “If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather

them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.” (Jesus, in John 15:6)

Did Jesus say ’Once a branch, always a branch’? Of course not. Here’s another warning from

    Jesus:

    ■ “But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to

    beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;
The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when

he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the

    unbelievers.” (Jesus, in Luke 12:45,46)

“Once saved, always saved”? Apparently not.

    ■ “If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:” (Paul, in

    2 Timothy 2:12)

There is no sacrifice —no blood— covering the new sins of a person who has reverted to a

life of sin, no longer in repentance, no longer abiding in Jesus:

    ■ “For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there

remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the

    adversaries.” (Hebrews 10:26,27)

♦ Am I suggesting those in Christ —the “house of God”— are in some sort of probation or

judgment, right now? Exactly. Take it from Peter:

    ■ “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at

us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” (1 Peter 4:17)

    ■ “Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you

should seem to come short of it.” (Hebrews 4:1)

These warnings from Paul and Peter make perfect sense:

    ■ “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now

much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” (Philippians

    2:12)

    ■ “Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for

if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of

our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:10,11)

Once saved always saved is false doctrine. We are worse off when we choose to no longer be a faithful Christian. God will not force us to follow Him if we don’t want to. He always gives us freedom to come or to go like the Rich young ruler or Prodigal son who walked away.

    2 Peter 2:20-22
For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Once Jesus paid off the ransom, most of Adam’s children have the opportunity to qualify for everlasting life.
Accepting Jesus’ dacrifice is mandatory. John 3:16.
The application of the value of the ransom will take place under Jesus’ 1,000 year rule of this earth. For those who qualify, everlasting life will be a reality. Psalms 37:29.

If anyone would like to receive the free gift of eternal life, paid in full by Jesus, when he shed his blood on the cross to pay for our sins, please look up a website called “Poetry About Jesus and Salvation” for a clear presentation of the plan of salvation and how you can be 100% sure you will go to heaven when you die.

Let’s see what the apostle Paul had to say.
    Paul
had the holy spirit. And he understood that even after preaching to others, he could possibly

return to a life of sin and therefore be rejected . . . thrown out . . . a “castaway”:
    ■ “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I

have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” (1 Corinthians 9:27)

Yes, Paul realized he could be thrown out —a “castaway.” Apparently Paul did not subscribe

    to “once saved, always saved.”

We can find more evidence in Paul’s letter to the church in Rome. Paul explains that Israel —

the “natural branches”— had not been spared, but had been “cut off.” Paul goes on to warn

that they —the believers in Rome— could also be cut off:

    ■ “For if God spared not the natural branches [Israel], take heed lest he also spare not thee.
Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward

thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.”

    (Romans 11:21,22)

Paul warned them to take heed, or else they would not be spared, and would be “cut off.”

Again, we can reasonably conclude Paul did not subscribe to “once saved, always saved.”
And Paul’s conditional clause —“if thou continue in His goodness”— certainly indicates a

person can no longer be in “in His goodness” even after entering “His goodness.”

My prayer is that all nonbelievers who had the privilege of listening to this message will believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and that he gave his life as a sacrifice to save us from eternal death.

the bible would not have the word "if" – I like this preacher and most of his stuff is good and encouraging… but he is not perfect.. and unfortunately.. he is misleading so many… Read your scriptures people…. You can’t go before Christ and say "well Dr. Stanley said…." Good luck with that…

  33. @MrAdriancooke on July 30, 2025 at 12:52 am

OK this is heavy but here goes: even when I was a kid I was interested in the afterlife but about a year ago I had a frightening dream where a doctor told me that I would die at the age of 67, the point being that I will turn 67 next year. I am now looking back over my life and realising what a mess I have made of it so I am very concerned now about what will happen, particularly because Jesus said that hardly anyone will get to heaven.
