Christians break fast with Muslims at interfaith event in Singapore
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Jamiyah Singapore, also known as Muslim Missionary Society Singapore, joined on May 27, 2019 to break the fast together at the Church’s meetinghouse. It was a historic occasion for the two faiths, as it was their first time jointly held Iftar in a Christian meetinghouse.
I love news like this. It’s wonderful that, although we understand ourselves to be God’s true Church, we still seek to love all people as ourselves, and seek both mutual understanding and respect. And that we strive to embrace all truth (wherever it may be found), that we acknowledge that other religions have varying degrees of truth. And that we strive to build on common ground with them, and that we humbly seek not division but unity. And that we never ask anyone to give up the good that they already have, but only to come embrace more. Or, at least, that’s our doctrine—and, even though not all of us may live up to it perfectly, I’m so glad that so many of us do.
I scratch your back…you scratch mine? I have a super itchy back though, so it may take some work.
