Why Are There Animal Sacrifices in the Bible?

Why Are There Animal Sacrifices in the Bible?

God is on a mission to remove evil from His good world, along with all of its corrosive effects. However, He wants to do it in a way that does not involve removing humans. In this video on sacrifice and atonement, we trace the theme of God’s “covering” over human evil through animal sacrifices that ultimately point to Jesus and his death and resurrection.

    The Messiah was baptized in the Jordan River… the head of that river was coming out of the base of Mount Herman…at the base of Mount Herman was a pagan worship center called caesarea Philippi… People would come and throw living children into the water that came out of the mountain, that opening in the mountain was called the gate of hell… The gate of hell was the opening and start of the Jordan River… Christ was baptized in a river of the dead of innocent children

    Remember – you are loved! Jesus loved you and gave his life so that you could be free because of Him! He died for our sins so that we can be reconnected with our Creator God. At His crucifixion Jesus took all our wrong thoughts words or deeds we ever did to the cross, paying for them. This is because our sins separated us from Him, and sin’s punishment is death. While we could do nothing to get back to God, He sent His Son so that we could get back to Him. He rose again three days later proving His power over sin and death, and He is returning soon to bring all His believing children to Heaven when He returns, and let those who reject Him choose the only other destination (Hell).

    He wants us to choose life. He gives us the choice to follow Him right now and have Heaven when He returns, and a true relationship with Him now. He wants us all to repent of our sins and receive a new life in Him!

    A life of strength, faith, and the ability to truly love others as God has loved us. He wants us to follow Him, and let Him be the Lord of our lives. Why is that part important? Because through Christ we will be given the power to overcome sin in our lives today and to love like He does. Christ offers this blessing to all who choose to believe in Him, trust Him and follow Him xx He will never leave you nor forsake you xxx

    Ah. So much symbolism and wisdom.
    God works in mysterious ways that we do not understand but overall He always Rights whatever is wrong.
    Hail Jesus Christ, Father Yahweh, and the Holy Spirit

    This is helpful connecting OT, animal sacrifices, Jesus death, and his new rituals – baptism and the Lord supper. Thank you!

    This makes so much more sense when you go back to the garden & truly understand atonement (the process by which people remove obstacles to their reconciliation with God). God killed at least one and likely two animals to cover Adam & Eves nakedness/sin.

    How God Deals With Evil Without Destroying Humanity
    ~~~ I’m sure that you are about to launch in a wonderful tale, but here’s some Truth;
    God has already "dealt with evil" by warning us, in no uncertain terms;
    Why does God allow suffering and evil?
    Do you realize that there was no suffering (or ‘good’ or ‘evil’ or ‘sin’) in the world before taking that first bite of the ‘Forbidden Fruit’?
    Are you asking why God "allows" you to reap the ‘fruit’ of your disobedience, your sin?
    Pain is a beautiful feature of Reality/Truth, ‘suffering’ is what you THINK about the pain! They are NOT the same thing!
    That metaphoric ‘Fruit’ is THOUGHT, referred to as "the heart" in; "The heart is deceitful above all things!"
    THOUGHT is where all suffering exists. Hell ONLY exists in THOUGHT!
    So, right off the bat, God warns us so clearly and unambiguously NOT TO ‘EAT THE FRUIT’, and what do we do?; fruit juice, fruit fritters, fruit pie, fruit candy, fruit wine… get the drift?
    We have been munching on that ‘fruit’ (sin) every day of our lives, spitting in the face of God, suffering, and come whining about God "allowing" suffering?
    GET REAL!
    GET SAVED!
    All ‘good’ and ‘evil’ exist in the sinfully judgmental THOUGHTS of the unSaved!
    How can baptism in water be a symbol connecting us to Jesus’s death if they were doing water baptism even when He was alive? John the Baptist? Please explain… very hungry to know what the first water baptisms represented when they were happening before Jesus died.
  17. @Pupcan on August 6, 2025 at 12:36 am
    I am deeply impressed by the symbolism of the visuals at 03:18 where the rocks on the ground are the horns of the earlier altar. BibleProject’s commitment to quality visual design is very educationally effective. Plenty of people throughout the centuries have floundered when it comes to teaching about God in a way that lets visual arts add weight to what is sometimes dry material, but you’re doing God’s work in a way that adds artistic weight without diminishing the scriptures.
    I thought rituals were removed by Jesus’ death and resurrection?
  27. @YvessLarue on August 6, 2025 at 12:46 am
    As someone who believes there is a god but I do not believe in religion thank you for explaining this. Gives more insight to why these rituals were done at that time. I still do not believe in your religion but it does clarify your belief. To me it still does not make sense but it does clarify a lot of questions I had. Thanks for sharing
    Brothers and sisters, how good is our God?
  32. @brendoneash557 on August 6, 2025 at 12:52 am
    Why do you say this is the promise Jesus “believed” he was fulfilling? That implies you do not necessarily believe he was fulfilling this promise in Isaiah? Can you let me know what your purpose was for this sentence in your video? Thank you.
  33. @RakilTheGoon on August 6, 2025 at 12:54 am
    In all this presentation, you do not mention leviticus chap 1 to 3 which explains the primary purpose of animal sacrifices. It is for worship. Burnt, fellowship offerings are the way God established to draw near to Him. God didn’t intend for men to approach Him empty handed or let alone anyway they see fit. When Noah offered sacrifice (burnt offering) after the great deluge, it was for worship. It is quite surprising to have to explain what animal sacrifices are about without once referring even implicitly to leviticus.
    Hallowed be Your name
    Your kingdom come
    Your will be done
    Give us today our daily bread
    And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors
    And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
    For Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
    I would argue, animal sacrifice is an act of evil. Jesus came to end this practice of evil and show God’s true character.
    Bible verses in the King James Version (KJV) that discuss the power of Jesus’ death and life:
    Philippians 3:10
    "That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death"
    John 11:25
    "I am the resurrection and the life"
    Romans 6:9
    "For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again"
    1 Corinthians 15:55-57
    "O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ"
    2 Corinthians 4:11-12
    "For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. So then death worketh in us, but life in you"
    Romans 8:34
    "Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us"
    That’s really interesting, there are people that discredit the new testaments and teach things as if they don’t exist. These things wouldn’t matter to Jesus as there were many disciples. Many followers of Jesus with their own mentalities who would not rebuke their faith in the Miracles of Christ Jesus. So, who are these false disciples and teachers trying to destroy the message and goodness of God, this was a very enlightening video. I think the historical context was ok, I don’t think that’s important, but if you’re going to talk about it, you should talk about Jesus’ first coming as an establishment of Earth as part of the Kingdom of Heaven. Obviously mankind was a heathenistic entity from conception downtrodden with the naturalities of Earth, Jesus established a kingdom among men who built pyramids, what greater feat could ever be achieved? Because of the work of Jesus, holy men exist, hallow be thy name, on Earth as it is in Heaven, amen.
