Trusting God in Difficult Times – Psalm 46 Meditation by Tim Keller
Trusting God in Difficult Times – Psalm 46 Meditation by Tim Keller
Today we continue this special series of meditations by Tim Keller — “Trusting God in Difficult Times.” This series is meant to encourage you to trust God more deeply and to meditate on his word and what it promises, to give you strength and hope in difficult times. After the meditation, Tim will be joined by Kathy Keller for a short Q&A.
These meditations are brought to you by Gospel in Life, the site for all sermons, books, study guides and resources from Timothy Keller and Redeemer Presbyterian Church. If you’ve enjoyed this meditation and would like to support the ongoing efforts of this ministry, you can do so by visiting https://gospelinlife.com/youtube and making a one-time or recurring donation.
This is so good and thanks for introducing that book. RIP Tim Keller
I almost cried when he said if we die we are finally embraced in God’s arm, father’s arm. I was diagnosed as a thyroid cancer, and I was captured by fear. But I am christian, and I know God is my father. There is nothing to be worried about. Thanks for the great sermon.
Please pray for me, I’ve been addicted to Social Media in my entire life. My past experiences keep haunting me down. And I want to be the best version of me as I can possibly be. I want my life to be different. I’m struggling to make my dreams come true please help me God. Please give me strength
God is an invention of the devil to mislead us.
If you are a believer, he has already won.
I did 87 meditations through PO cold logistics, through my Amazon Buisness Account, unknown redeemer.
Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the evil in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love.
Justice said we broke His perfect law – causing the world’s previous perfection to be destroyed – and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don’t think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing – regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others – which is murder in God’s perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die".
BUT, mercy said "I dont want to give them what they deserve. I don’t want them to be cut off from Me. I love them despite all they have done/will do against Me. I want to give My children another chance. I want them to come home and live in My love again".
And love said "Jesus, God’s Son, came down as a Man, our representative, suffering every temptation, pain and struggle we have ever faced, yet without sin. He took all our sins (past/present/ even future) to the cross and then crucified EVERY ONE on our behalf. Justice was paid on the cross so that we can be free from Hell’s punishment, experience Gods mercy of forgiveness of sin and live in His love. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (turn away from our sin and pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life.
He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it.
He doesn’t want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through Him (not ourselves as it’s impossible without depending on His power and instruction). So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to obey His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and ask Him to help us in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will.
NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER
If you have any questions let me know! Xx
Amen
Am reading this in 2023…. so relevant. Thank you.
Amen.
Very encouraging and insightful! Thank you for sharing this reflection Tim and Kathy.
"Bad things will turn out for good ,good things can never be taken away and the best is still to come".
Friedrich Nietzsche father was a Lutheran priest , unfortunately he lost his father dues to a mental illness and Nietzsche would unfortunately suffer the same fate. Nietzsche also fell in love and the woman he proposed to refused to marry him. Nietzsche continually suffered in both in health and loneliness. So many innocent people fall victims to the un Godly realities of life .
Why do so many people who love find loneliness?
Why do so man people who are beautiful get treated as been inferior ?
Then Jesus separated the sheep from the goats.
The sheep felt empathy whilst the goats continued living their selfish lives.
As Christians it is our duty to give hope, faith and love so that people like Nietzsche and suicide victims are given love. If you witness evil and you have not got the courage to stand up for your lesser man then good will not come to you.
Hey Tim, I’m Anthony Keller DeVere, I enjoy your advice

"..They go to bed though." haha Absolutely loved this, so helpful 🙂
Thank you so much for these videos and podcast by Tim. What really stood out for me is the assurance that we are in Christ as children of God. As Tim said as a child of God bad things turns out for those who love the Lord, All good things given to us as children of God can not be taken away from us and the worst thing that can happen to us is death but we have peace because we are going to be in the father’s arm and with him. God is indeed good.
The River of Our God – There is none likened unto the Lord. He is full of love, of grace, of mercy, of hope, of compassion and all of the promises of God are yes and amen. He smiles upon His called, His chosen, His elect and His heart of compassion is opened unto His precious and beloved bride. For the Bridegroom, the Beloved Husbandman, our King, is a God overflowing with love, compassion, tender mercies and gracious thoughts towards us. There is a mighty river that flows, that is flowing, that flows, which comes from the heart of God. There is a mighty river, that flows, which is flowing, that touches our hearts and changes our lives. For the river of our God is good, and through and in Christ, we bask in His heavenly waters, poured forth richly, even as deep cries out to deep. Sometimes we stick our toes in to test the waters, and the Lord says; the river is good. Other times we go in ankle deep, and the Lord says; the river is good. Other times we go in waist deep and the Lord says; the river is good. Sometimes we hang onto our safety bars, and the Lord says; the river is flowing, and the river is good. Come, come, come, into the waters. It‘s ok, we can let go of our safety bars, and trust Him, because the river is good, the river is flowing, and the river is the river of God. Drink deep beloved. Drink deep the goodness of your God. Bask in His presence, in His love, in His compassion, and in His tender mercies. For you are loved with an everlasting love and precious in His sight!!!
TODAY, attempted to meditate again.
I cannot remember a day without believing every promise God has given., Psalm 46 being one on my wall in my kitchen, but since April 26, 2019 changed my life… my 39 y.o. Son who once studied at a theological seminary in hopes to become a pastor. But something happened..I have been a pastoral assistant & Christian teacher for most of my 70 yrs.My heart feels like a smooth stone, God’s Word rolls over the top but does not penetrate. I am a regular churchgoer, I’ve not given up on God but I am weighed down not knowing if I will see my son in Heaven. I feel I am dragging myself through life. I go to sleep each night listening to your sermons…all the words I have supported others with during my ministry have little feeling inside me… Please pray for me…
Roast it toast it post it
Get in trouble and boast it
Your thinking is all wrong
God is not here to save you so move along
Get on your knees pray for forgiveness
Or sing your sad song
You think the universe cares about you
Do hard things and get strong
Thank you pastor Tim Keller I am listening to your sermons and I am learning from you .
God continue to bless you . Greetings from Sweden , Ruben
My heart needed this today – Be still and meet with God during this time!

"The people that do know their God shall be strong."
Every believer understands that to know God is the highest and best form of knowledge; and this spiritual knowledge is a source of strength to the Christian. It strengthens his faith. Believers are constantly spoken of in the Scriptures as being persons who are enlightened and taught of the Lord; they are said to "have an unction from the Holy One," and it is the Spirit’s peculiar office to lead them into all truth, and all this for the increase and the fostering of their faith. Knowledge strengthens love, as well as faith. Knowledge opens the door, and then through that door we see our Saviour. Or, to use another similitude, knowledge paints the portrait of Jesus, and when we see that portrait then we love Him, we cannot love a Christ whom we do not know, at least, in some degree. If we know but little of the excellences of Jesus, what He has done for us, and what He is doing now, we cannot love Him much; but the more we know Him, the more we shall love Him. Knowledge also strengthens hope. How can we hope for a thing if we do not know of its existence? Hope may be the telescope, but till we receive instruction, our ignorance stands in the front of the glass, and we can see nothing whatever; knowledge removes the interposing object, and when we look through the bright optic glass we discern the glory to be revealed, and anticipate it with joyous confidence. Knowledge supplies us reasons for patience. How shall we have patience unless we know something of the sympathy of Christ, and understand the good which is to come out of the correction which our heavenly Father sends us? Nor is there one single grace of the Christian which, under God, will not be fostered and brought to perfection by holy knowledge. How important, then, is it that we should grow not only in grace, but in the "knowledge" of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
"How joyful and gladsome must the thoughts of Jesus Christ be to a Christian — to think how great a love Christ has for us even to lay down his life and suffer the most bitter torments for our sake, who also now continually intercedes for us at the throne of Grace. To consider that so great a person as the eternal son of God who also made the world is not ashamed to call us brethren, who will come in and sup with us and, us with him, and we will see his arms expanded to embrace us, and we will see him offering himself to be embraced by us. Therefore, you may now look down upon the whole army of worldly afflictions and suffering and you can consider with joy that however great they are and however numerous even though they might join all their forces together against you and put on their most rueful and dreadful habits forms and appearances and spend all their strength vigor and violence against you they cannot do you any real hurt or mischief and it will all be in vain. You may triumph over them all if you know these things!"
— Jonathan Edwards
This guy does not read or respond to any of your texts. He displays proudly all the teachings of men that he reads behind him. He has no mention that Psalm 46 is also a prophecy about the Day of the Lord when mountains and islands fall into the sea and the earth melts. This is because he is clueless about it.

Guys can you pray for me I’m 12 years old and have been feeling frightened by the pressure of the world and its evil and wickedness and really and played this game called Minecraft which I felt bad about because of some of the stuff that is in the game. I really need more faith and trust in God. And this video helped a lot and gave me bible verses I can really use and memorize and study.

"Find ways to use what you’ve been given…" Yes! This time of "enforced" stillness has certainly given me pause to consider my response to the question of now what? Thank you for this message of encouragement.
You did this video 4 years ago (it is now Dec 2024). Some of what you said this is challenge just a few years later. So much has changed. For one thing, you are now passed away. And now we have many illegal immigrants, some of voting and committing crimes and are still allowed here. So, your example isn’t relevant anymore.
Maranatha. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Thanks for meditation. I hope it will soon have subtitles in Portuguese, as it will reach even more people.

I find it uncanny that only 2 months ago you spoke of cities being bombed and now today the riots of bombings of ATMs. I was once told by a faithfilled person that there are no coincidences with God! And this speaks to that!
A great passage of scripture! Thank you!
Love these reflections especially the interaction afterwards
