The hardest thing we can ever do is to follow Jesus. It’s so hard to forgive
Honestly, if Christ has said, be ye perfect even as thy Father which is in Heaven is perfect, then there’s no way that thief could have made it to Heaven. Let’s posit for a second that what He was referring to was a spirit world, meant to be a holding area, prior to the final destination. And that said Spirit world were divided in two sections, one called prison and another called Paradise. The only way to get to what is referred to as “Heaven” is by keeping the commandments and doing the things that have been asked of us, starting with Faith, Repentance and Baptism. That thief had none of those, but started with Faith. As such, Christ had compassion on him and told him, “After you die, you’re not going to go to that prison (not Hell, mind you) but I’ll let you go to Paradise.”

Idk if thats forgiveness. The man didn’t do anything to Jesus so what does Jesus have to forgive. All the man did was recognize Jesus didn’t do anything wrong.
