Inside the Latter-day Saints' Washington D.C. Temple

For decades the towering marble edifice that is the Washington, D.C. Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has posed a mystery to those outside the faith. Now, after a major renovation, CBS News’ Ed O’Keefe takes a tour inside the temple, before a public open house that will welcome all to visit a building dedicated to reverence and contemplation.

I wish they had asked about the secret meetings held on weekday mornings between the church elders and the pre-pubescent boys. There is a lot of secrecy in this religion and knowing what I know, it borders on cult

I’ve never heard of this building til now.

    Jesus divides people and families.
Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law — a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ (Mat 10:34-36)

The God of truth (Isa. 65:16) is the God of the Bible. Since truth divides, then Jesus would naturally divide his followers away from those who reject and hate God’s truth, even one’s natural family members. Remember, Jesus divides families:

Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” (Luke 12:51-53)

Those same truth rejecters become enemies to the truth lovers as they resist and persecute the follower of Jesus.

To be worthy of Jesus and eternal life, one must side with God’s truth even though it divides his own family.

  15. Michael de NoVA on September 9, 2022 at 1:10 am

The temple was dedicated today. Only members in good standing and with a recommend card can go inside now. However, visitors are always welcome to walk around the temple grounds and/or go through the visitor’s center. And of course, the Christmas light display and the free Christmas concerts at the Visitor’s Center in December are wonderful and well attended.

  19. Byron Leatham on September 9, 2022 at 1:15 am

She just kick the money changers out of his Temple and everything Jesus done was done in public in front of everybody he had nothing to hide the Church of Jesus Christ is now the world’s largest financial institution Catholic churches second so if you want to worship money go to the temple imagine millions of dollars that it takes to build one of them and where the money comes from it’s one of the few institutions that could stop world hunger forever but they don’t they build temples to make themselves feel it Superior to all others it’s just plain disgusting reading read the New testament of the Bible and see what it says and then listen to the Mormon point of view and you’ll know the truth truth will set you free

Mormonism is a false religion with a false jesus a false prophet and a false "bible" joseph smith practiced divination occult practices to receive his supposed revelations. This is demonic doctrine as the true biblical jesus warned us of in the true bible.

the mormon church was NOT persecuted for their beliefs. they were persecuted for lies, sins, false teachings, false prophecies occult origins(divination) and plural marriages. lets not let them play victims when they have a checkered history and dubious origin

"We will not reveal any of the secrets of this, the first token of the Aaronic priesthood, with its accompanying name, sign or penalty. Should we do so; we agree that our throats be cut from ear to ear and our tongues torn out by their roots." ~ 1931

  40. Michael de NoVA on September 9, 2022 at 1:43 am

As of June 5, 2022, about 250,000 people toured the inside of the DC Temple. Best guess is that when the open house ended on June 11, about 300,00 attended.

  41. Super TAL on September 9, 2022 at 1:45 am

Nicely and Respectfully done – Thank you, CBS Sunday Morning.

  42. Jeff Smith on September 9, 2022 at 1:45 am

Thank you for this respectful report.

  43. Michael de NoVA on September 9, 2022 at 1:46 am

The last day of the DC Temple open house was yesterday. I hope many of you had the opportunity to see the inside. Visitors are welcome to stroll around the outside and see the beautiful gardens and landscaping. Also, there is a visitor’s center located on the property if you want to know more about our faith. At Christmas time, the outside of the visitors center is lit with about a million Christmas lights and there are a lot of free Christmas concerts put on by community groups. It is a great holiday tradition for many.

Beware of false prophets and trust in Jesus Christ and his teachings, man though sin want the truth to be how they want it to be and not what Jesus Christ teaches
the book of Mormon is a lie
Don’t be deceived Jesus Christ is come in the flesh to die for your sins and save you and give you eternal life as a free gift by believing in Jesus Christ and what Jesus Christ did and how he rose from the grave on the 3rd day!
