Fr. Mike’s Prayer for Beginners

Fr. Mike’s Prayer for Beginners

Whether you’re cultivating a life of prayer with Jesus for the first time or you’re trying to reignite that fire in your soul, the breadth of prayer advice can be dizzyingly overwhelming.

If you’re open to it, today, Fr. Mike has one more prayer to try out: T-A-R.

1. Tell the Lord what’s on your heart
2. Ask him for what you need
3. Rely on the Lord to answer your prayer

It might seem simple, but it might change your prayer life forever.

    God, please help her.
Professor Bae at WashU sexually assaulted a woman in the children’s space while they were sleeping. She couldn’t even resist him because she was afraid that the children would wake up and see him. She is still suffering from the trauma of the moment’s fear and helplessness, and is falling ill and dying. Let her regain her health and happiness in her family.
Professor Bae is living a normal life boasting of his achievements. No matter how much he denies by lying, let the truth be revealed and unmask him.
Let him be punished by law, Amen.

Hey Fr. Mike, you can get married and have children! The Bible says so: 1 Timothy 3:1-7
An overseer should be above reproach, self-controlled, hospitable, and able to teach. They should also be the husband of one wife, not greedy, and not a bully or excessive drinker. They should be good managers of their own household, with submissive children, and well thought of by outsiders. They should not be recent converts, as they may become conceited and fall into the devil’s condemnation. I say, If you cannot manage your own family, you probably can’t manage anything else!

The heart is wicked according to scripture! Do not go there! Instead, you can start with praying through the Psalms! A good one to start with is Psalm 55 (Cast your burden on the LORD) No acronyms necessary! Or maybe, just start by opening your Bible? None of these were mentioned here!

I was raised and baptized protestant. I am interested in Catholicism. I usually pray during classes and before bed. Catholics pray to Mary and the Saints to ask them to pray for us, when should I and what should I say? That concept is so incredibly foreign to me. Is it a prayer just like I am praying to God but instead of father I say Saint ____?

ST. MOTHER TERESA OF CALCUTTA: “We create all kinds of difficulties in our prayer. Let us go back to what Jesus has taught – the intimate and simple prayer: ‘Our Father…’ Even little children can pray this.”

  19. @vanessajohnsen388 on June 25, 2025 at 10:55 pm

The only way to Heaven is through Jesus. Mary cannot help you she is dead. Jesus is alive. Repent to be saved ❤

  20. @danjf1 on June 25, 2025 at 10:55 pm

This is only my personal opinion, so please just take it for that. I think way too many times we pray because we want something from God. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that at all. God wants us to vocally and mentally tell God what is in our hearts and what our petitions may be – for ourselves, our family, or our community. Also, please remember one of the most important reasons to pray to the Lord: to praise Him. Like many of the Psalms begin: "A prayer of thanksgiving…" When we can, let God know we appreciate everything he has done for us in our lives. Just thank him for creating us!

Only recently came to Christ and this was really helpful in figuring out another way to pray. Thank you.

  29. @lisapurplehayes on June 25, 2025 at 11:11 pm

I’m not frustrated with anything. God does whatever he does. I do what I can do. Usually I need to do extra to get what needs done, done. Do I care that God doesn’t have any consistency? No. He does what he does and I do what I do.

  30. @gogos869 on June 25, 2025 at 11:12 pm

Here is an idea! Just read your Bible and pray before, during , and after you read it! You don’t need an acronym!

  31. @frankm.2850 on June 25, 2025 at 11:12 pm

Father, I’m Episcopalian, Anglo Catholic specifically, and I just got baptized on Pentecost. I’ve found your videos and the ascension and hallow apps so helpful in my walk and prayer life. As someone who didn’t grow up in the church, extemporaneous prayer is something I’ve struggled with, but this was very helpful. Thank you!

Just wanted you to know, yes I noticed in a few seconds. Not my business.

My journy to Jesus is slow (as I asked for). I suddenly thought it is time to pray and do so not as a one off, but a first of many. I searched Prayer for beginners and found this first. I take it as a sign, because not only does it feel welcoming and true, I also happen to have the Name Michael after the Nickname of my father and the Lastname Schmitz. So I listen to Father Mike Schmitz and all makes sense. Thanks to you and the Lord.

  36. @I-Am-He on June 25, 2025 at 11:17 pm

Every time that I think I need something I immediately come to the conclusion that I’m not worthy to ask anything of Him. I have a tough time asking Him for anything because He’s already given so much and I could never repay Him. Being the dog that I am, I can’t even get right the things He wants me to.

I’m not good at prayer, send a prayer to the Lord that I may get better at it.

Viva Cristo Rey, Viva Cristo Rey

  38. @gogos869 on June 25, 2025 at 11:19 pm

Martin Luther tried to abolish the whole Monk and Nunn nonsense over 500 years ago!
I guess the Catholic Church does not study history! You don’t have to be married in order to be a pastor but it is safer for everyone involved! Plus, it narrows down unqualified men if they are incapable of running their own household! Amen?
