Are you a disciple or just a Christian? Is there a difference between the two? Jesus told us to go and make disciples, but instead we make Christians. We are often guilty of not preparing people for what it TRULY means to be a fully-devoted follower of Jesus Christ. In this 10-minute sermon from Luke 14:25-35 Jesus is brutally honest about what it means to be a disciple rather than just being a Christian. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The modern "church services" or "worship services" in American churches do practically NOTHING to advance discipleship. Some entertainment, sing a few songs, listen to a "message" that is promptly forgotten, and no one-anothering or mutual edification, except for a few minutes before or after the "service." The early church that turned the world upside down did NOT have anything like what we have today.
For go just forgo all for Me (#1 teacher in 8,000,000,000)
You forgot one huge 1 i believe, Matthew 28:18-20 the great commission! A disciple makes a disciple! True Christians= Disciples= Saved!
You talk too much! Stop trying to hipe up the video, and get to the point or give the word!
Decipleship=salvation
Thank you! I needed to hear this
To be a follower of Jesus Christ you need to be obedient to his father and God. This means you would be obedient, as Jesus was, even to your last breath.
Of course then, that means you will need to know how Christ lived his life while on the earth first, so as to apply his model or example to your personal life. You are either a true Christian or a false christian there is no middle or lesser position as a true Christian.
Philippians 2:8
8 More than that, when he came as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, yes, death on a torture stake. 9 For this very reason, God exalted him to a superior position and kindly gave him the name that is above every other name,
Who was Jesus always obedient to?
Wasn’t it his father in heaven. So for his obedience he was GIVEN the highest authority. He didn’t give himself that authority, his father gave it to him. Which shows us two things, one that Jesus wasn’t obedient to himself but to his father. And two, that he is not the father. If he were the father he would have already had the authority and wouldn’t needed to have received it from anyone.
Honestly this was straightforward and powerful.
Why would God punish innocent Jesus for my guilt as a sinner. Numbers 14:18 You (God) never allow the GUILTY to go unpunished.
This is good! So many church goer, many great and nice people, but a disciple of Jesus is quite different.
tomuch fast are you teaching us or reading for us. Please teach us slowly all your speach is too speedy
Thank you for breaking down the passages for us. There was so much to learn and reflect on that I had to keep pausing and rewinding. God bless you!
Great teaching if your intent is to increase the number of people who hear Jesus say "depart from me you who practice lawlessness for I never knew you." It is astonishing to me that by a thorough reading of the NT one would come to the conclusion that there is a distinction between being a Christian and being a disciple. If anybody ever wondered why the church in the west is in the state it is, look no further. I’m sure this is a very popular doctrine throughout the underground persecuted church. Lord help us!
Thanks!
Amen praise the Lord
tema asta ii foarte importanta , si a’ti pus’o de kkt !
boilor !
daca nu stim engleza , de ce a’ti pus’o numa in engleza ?
A follower of Jesus is a Christian. A Christian is a student of Christ. There is no distinction. One cannot be a Christian and not be a student of Christ.
Thank you Brother Allen! I’ve been inspired by what and how you have allowed the Lord to guide His ministry with you to share. I felt the need to share this message with our Sunday school class today. Powerful passage. Brutal Truth. Thanks for all you do in Christ Jesus
NO ONE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A CHRISTIAN!
WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE BORN-AGAIN!
WAKE UP!
I dont have money career 401k girlfriend or home. I have Jesus. I only say this to inspire you. Street church for life!
The ultimate sacrifice was to be a DISCIPLE of Jesus during the lifetime of Christ- with the expectation of bearing first hand witness to his gospels, miracles, resurrection and then setting an example for the Christian’s and saints to come. Disciples and saints have a very special place in heaven!
Christ’s Disciple – Our calling to be
Such great teaching
Is it scriptural that you can be saved but not have to be a disciple with all the costs that come with it?
I think we can read a single verse and arrive at that conclusion, but I think taking the context of what Jesus was doing in his 3 year ministry, I don’t think that’s true.
You either lose your life for Jesus and thus find it or you cling to your life and lose it.
There’s no relationship with Jesus without discipleship and it’s necessary costs.
Such a powerful sermon! Thank you Jesus, God bless you all.
As awesome and exciting as this teaching is.. I just walked out of an unhealthy church experience that taught that excessive involvement in church to point of burning out, is a form of sacrifice which makes you a disciple.
I wish to follow Christ in the manner that he teaches, but I struggle with what appears to be churches taking advantage of it’s members time and energy.
I hope to find a healthy balance in my next church. Even Jesus stopped to rest and feed His followers.
Acts 11:26 and when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass that for a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught many people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
Jesus said go out into the world and make disciples, he did not say go make christians necause that word dos not exist as you see in the passage above. He did not say go make believers. We are all sabed and called. If we are called then we are to serve in the kingdom.
The kingdom of God is within you, why because its our calling to serve that kingdom. We called priests and kings, a peculiar people in peyers epistles. We will all stamd at the judgement seat of Christ and nowjere in the word does it differ believer from disciple, on fact there is a seperation from sheep and goats when jeaus gatjera the nation….tell me what is the difference between a sheeps and goats? Sheepsb follow a shepherd and the shepherd leads them but goats do not
I am a Christian. ❤
Christian means follower of Jesus i.e., Disciple
"We must become as little children… to enter the kingdom of God…"
So basically it’s a works based commision
The last few seconds of your video were the most important. Salvation costs us nothing, but cost Jesus everything. Salvation is Jesus picking up His cross in our place, discipleship is us deciding, "you know what? Jesus saved me like that? I wanna be like Jesus now. I’ma pick up my cross too." Salvation is a free gift by grace through faith. Discipleship is could be very costly, and it takes a constant denying of our fleshly desires and a seeking after God through the suffering because the rewards in eternity, to hear "well done my good and faithful servant!" are worth it.
Christian words are not in the Bible. The disciples of Jesus Christ are called Christ. Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship between the creator and man whose medium is the savior Jesus Chist
himself. There is a difference of earth and sky between Christianity and the disciples of Jesus Christ.
Disciples were first called Christians in Antioch (Acts), so there is no difference. That means we should use the names interchangeably and keep the responsibility and duties the same. If you are a true Christian then you are a true Disciple
❤❤❤
2:56
Obey His commands because you love Him and its not burdensome.
The title should be are you just a believer or are you a disciple?
I do my love an loyalty to the lord is above all he saved me what can I say literally
Thank you so much for sharing! May your teaching be blessed!!
Praise Jesus !!!!
Becoming a talmid or disciple of Yeshua or Jesus is many years outdated since his movement known as Nazarene sect of Judaism or Netzarim in Hebrew and led by James out of Jerusalem came to an end in the 4th century as the book Nazarene Jewish Christianity confirms. Read just the cover, description and buyers comments to convince anyone. Pair this with Acts chapter 5 33-39 and it should prove he is not the Messiah.
Is Christian and Disciple the same thing ?
So there is your regular Christian and then there is the super Christian? How can someone become a super duper Christian and is there something higher than the super duper Christian? I think that is the point of Luke 14. It is directed at the self-righteous just like the story of the Rich Young Ruler.
No Christian is "just a Christian."
In Acts 11:25 we see that Disciples were the first people to be called Christians, you cannot be a Christian if you are not a disciple. This means you are not saved if you are not a true disciple of Jesus. Message me to study the bible!
Acts 11:26 (YLT)
and having found him, he brought him to Antioch,
and it came to pass that they a whole year did assemble together in the assembly,
and taught a great multitude,
the disciples also were divinely called first in Antioch Christians.
After Book of Acts there is no more mention Disciple, because the focus is Sonship NOT Discipleship
Galatians 4:6
And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son
into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”
The idea of Discipleship came from Jews and that time many of people were disciples
Disciple doesn’t mean you are saved, look at 72 who left Jesus, also Judas Iscariot
That’s why after Book of Acts never mention again Disciple anymore because they are now "DIVINELY CALLED" Christian which means "Sonship" not discipleship anymore
A relationship as Family in CHRIST
We are Gentiles in Bible not Jews, don’t tell other True Believers to become Disciple (Btw a Disciple means a Learner nothing more than that !
We are child of GOD, We don’t follow JESUS like the Jewish in that time, Now We LISTEN to JESUS through Holy Spirit Who lives in us.
Word Follow means someone outside and we FOLLOW, but Christian must not FOLLOW but LISTEN.
Galatians 4:7
So you are no longer a slave, but a son,
and if a son, then an heir through God.
Disciple connected to Master
but Sinner connecter to Savior
We were all sinners, 1st we must see JESUS as Savior not Teacher
Ofc as child we LISTEN to His teaching, right ?
If you read the Chapter 15, It’s about GRACE when the Sinners and tax collectors came drew near JESUS <3
I hope Everyone understand what I’m saying : Don’t think disciple is greater, It’s NOT !
Sonship is greater !!!
Disciple cost everything which is not under GRACE
GRACE means REST
Disciple means Sacrifice, CAN YOU ? Ofc NO !
JESUS paid it all on the Cross
Means what ? HE didn’t want us to have SELF-RIGTHEOUSNESS because HE is our RIGHTEOUSNESS <3
FATHER JESUS Bless Everyone !!!
